Job OverviewT-Mobile moves fast, innovates rapidly, and maintains a laser focus on delivering the best customer experiences in any industry. The Director of Software Development plays a critical role in enabling this culture by developing and driving strategy with senior leaders, collaborating with business peers, and building and growing high-performing teams.
This leader will have end-to-end responsibility for strategy, development, operations through DevOps, and delivery of digital platforms that support T-Mobile’s suite of customer-facing and internal services. The digital platforms delivered within this organization are crucial components of the overarching Un-carrier strategy, led by both Marketing and Business teams, to enable industry-leading capabilities and strengthen T-Mobile’s relationship with its growing customer base.
This position directly impacts revenue generation by driving efficiencies for both customers and agents, enabling seamless, secure connections across support and commerce channels. The Director will execute enterprise strategies by leveraging in-house applications, open-source technologies, and industry-leading third-party solutions.
The Director is also responsible for building and leading a growing team of software development managers, architects, technical product managers, engineers, testers, and analysts to design, deliver, and support innovative solutions and services. A significant emphasis will be placed on identifying opportunities for innovation to maintain T-Mobile’s leadership position in an increasingly competitive industry landscape.
Finally, this leader will serve as a technology evangelist, championing T-Mobile’s position as a leading technology company.
Job Responsibilities:
- Form strategic partnerships with Product, Business, Enterprise domains, and stakeholders within and outside the technology organization. Develop a deep understanding of their business strategies, generate new ideas, manage issues, and ensure alignment with overall strategy.
- Actively plan and manage a portfolio of high-quality products & services through a lifecycle of envisioning/investing/sustaining/retiring.
- Contribute to strategy and supporting roadmaps aligned to overall strategy in collaboration with other directors and enterprise architecture.
- Maintain knowledge of new developments in area of specialty and incorporate these innovations where appropriate.
- Drive innovation, improvement and adoption of industry leading practices including open source, CI/CT/CD, cloud, microservices/container architecture.
- Recommend and implement technology direction for applications and services including package, SaaS, and custom developed solutions.
- Lead system design of highly scalable systems with native telemetry and monitoring in mind enabling self-healing systems.
- Drive cost out of systems operations and maintain critical technology roadmaps in place to continue to adapt to new technologies.
- Modernize legacy application architecture and infrastructure.
- Deliver and support a portfolio of services to achieve business objectives.
- Direct the continual improvement of the enterprise-scale services.
- Ensure effective collaboration between technology teams.
- Execute the design, development, and operations of systems that are highly performant and maintain high availability.
- Efficiently manage staff to support systems for continuous availability.
- Accountable for department budget, delivery and service performance, optimizing cost of service delivery, ensuring services are meeting or exceeding service levels.
- Develop and execute staffing strategy leveraging a mix of employees, managed services, and other partners to deliver departmental services.
- Contribute to overall strategy, policies and processes.
- Hire, manage, and develop a team of senior managers, managers and individual contributors.
- Lead team through change, motivating and inspiring teams to do their best work, and develop the team’s knowledge and ability to deliver on its mission.
- Coach and mentor senior staff; ensure effective performance partnership processes are used to maximize engagement and performance.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience required.
- Master's/Advanced Degree preferred.
- More than 10 years of professional experience leading software development teams in a large-scale company environment required.
- 7+ years of architecting and implementing digital service platforms and solutions required.
- 7+ years of mentoring and developing technical leaders within the software development domain required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven platform leadership: 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 7+ years leading large-scale digital platform initiatives that serve millions of users and multiple business domains.
- End-to-end platform delivery: Demonstrated success in designing, developing, and operating digital platforms—including customer-facing applications, APIs, and internal enablement services—with measurable business impact.
- Modern digital engineering practices: Hands-on experience with cloud-native platforms, API-first and microservices architecture, containerization, DevOps automation, and CI/CD pipelines supporting continuous delivery at scale.
- Scalable and resilient systems: Strong background in building secure, highly available, and performant platforms with a focus on reliability, observability, and enterprise-grade compliance.
- Data-driven excellence: Experience enabling platforms with advanced analytics, data pipelines, personalization, and AI/ML integrations to drive differentiated digital experiences.
- Cross-domain integration: Deep understanding of how digital platforms integrate with enterprise systems (CRM, billing, identity, commerce, etc.) to deliver seamless omnichannel customer journeys.
- Customer-first mindset: Proven ability to align platform engineering with customer experience strategies, ensuring platforms enable secure, intuitive, and frictionless customer interactions.
- Talent and culture building: Demonstrated success in developing engineering leaders and teams, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement within digital platform organizations.
- Strategic influence: Ability to partner with product, design, business, and enterprise technology leaders to define and deliver digital platform strategies that enable growth and agility.
- At least 18 years of age

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
