Job Overview
Join a dynamic team of engineers with diverse expertise, driving innovation at the forefront of 5G technology. The System Design Engineer's role is to design, analyze, validate and deploy hardware, software, and/or other Technology/Network solutions to maintain, enhance, and evolve the T-Mobile Network and Systems. As part of the Innovation Realization team, you’ll develop and implement cutting-edge solutions to support marketing events and proof-of-concept projects, collaborating with sponsorship and innovation partners in technology and sports and entertainment industries. Your work will involve evaluating technologies in both laboratory settings and real-world outdoor environments, ensuring seamless performance in high-impact scenarios. This fast-paced role offers the opportunity to apply a broad range of technical skills while pushing the boundaries of connectivity and user experience. Development of tools may be required in order to most efficiently solve technical or business challenges including technology evolution, performance optimization and/or quality validation. This role works on technical assignments that are focused on evolving technologies and capabilities and functions largely independent of supervision.

What you’ll do:

  • Learn and apply T-Mobile’s cutting-edge 5G technologies.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, test, evaluate and implement advanced technology solutions that show the power of 5G at marketing events.
  • Support event execution nationwide, both remotely and on-site.
  • Contribute to technology evaluation projects in laboratories and real-world environments.
  • Utilize mobile video encoding and decoding systems to enhance live experiences.
  • Engage with the latest mobile devices to implement and monitor the performance of new network features.
  • Work with a broad range of internal and external teams, including marketing sponsorships, lab and network engineering teams, and innovation partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Presents new ideas which improve an existing system/process/service. Question and express new perspectives based on independent study of the industry trends and benefits. Review current company processes, highlight questions, and explore process refinement.
  • Supports engineering projects by active contribution to the application of systems engineering techniques; conducting tests and inspections for analysis purposes; preparing reports and calculations. Contributes to procedures and processes to validate, enhance and optimize network. Performs validation tests and inspection techniques and effectively documents results.
  • Develop expertise in 5G technologies spanning mobile devices, radio access networks, and core systems.
  • Gain hands-on experience with technologies that optimize the wireless transport of video content.
  • Test and provide feedback on emerging technologies and solutions designed to support technical implementations.
  • Monitor and manage remote systems during high-profile marketing activations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external technology partners.
  • Work alongside emerging technology partners to support the implementation of solutions that showcase T-Mobile’s 5G network capabilities.
  • Research industry solutions and assess their feasibility for integration into our use cases.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the performance and reliability of portable technology solutions.
  • Technical Writing: Maintains knowledge of existing technology documents. Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Contributes clear documentation on systems used. Able to document systems designs and business requirements. Provides technical data for incorporation into internal presentations.
  • Technical Leadership: Collaborates with technical teams and utilizes system expertise to deliver technical solutions. Continuously learns and can demonstrate a detailed understanding of new technologies to guide associate level engineers.
  • Technology Strategy: Understands current technology that supports business goals.

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 4 years of technical engineering experience in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in technical testing with industry-standard tools (eg; QXDM), including troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Practical, hands-on experience with cellular devices, computer technology, IP networking, as well as switching and routing.
  • Proven track record with deploying, implementing, and supporting various technologies. 
  • Solid background in Radio Frequency (RF), digital communication, and wireless technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with different operating systems  -  Linux, Red Hat, Windows.
  • Coding experience with latest programming languages a plus – Python, Java, C#, C++.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and technologies, with an understanding of their applications in technical fields.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration on technical topics.
  • Self-motivated team player with a proactive mindset, eager to learn and contribute with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the U.S.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or Computer Science (Required)

Base Pay Range: $74,400 - $134,100

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
