Job Overview
The Manager, Data Science manages the various data science initiatives across the business roadmap by leading a diverse team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers. The Manager, Data Science is responsible for collecting business inputs, developing and maintaining a resource planning strategy, and successfully delivering epics and sprints. The Manager, Data Science constantly weighs the needs of the data science team against the needs of the business to identify and address opportunities for future operational improvement. This role has responsibility for hiring, termination, development, performance, and salary decisions. The chief contribution of the Manager is their ability to make decisions regarding the short and long-term planning of resources.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of major data science initiatives from problem framing, data collection, model development, insights generation and presentation, deployment, and performance measurement.
  • Hire, develop, manage, and retain a team of data scientists with diverse skills and experience levels.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve business problems using data science techniques.
  • Continuously improve data science operations to optimize efficiency, create scalable solutions, and build a best-in-class data science team.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Math, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Science, Analytics, Operations Research, Behavioral Science, or another analytical/quantitative field.

  • Master's/Advanced Degree in Math, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Science, Analytics, Operations Research, Behavioral Science, or another analytical/quantitative field.
    (Preferred)
  • 4+ years of experience implementing data science-driven solutions and explaining complex machine learning and analytical concepts, presenting data insights and recommendations to diverse audiences and multiple levels of leadership.
    (Required)
  • 2+ years of Management experience or Leading/coaching a data science team. (Required)
  • 4+ years of experience with data querying, wrangling, cleaning, and feature engineering working with common relational and non-relational databases in big data environments such as AWS, Azure, Snowflake, and Google Cloud. (Required)
  • 4+ years of experience using Python, Databricks, R, and other predictive modeling and machine learning tools in big data environments. (Required)
  • 4+ years of experience working with relational databases using SQL. (Required)
  • 4+ years of experience building and deploying data mining, visualization, statistical models, AI and machine learning solutions using various supervised/unsupervised ML algorithms. (Required)
  • 2-4 years Experience in the telecom industry (Preferred)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Mathematics Calculus, linear algebra, statistics, and probability (Required)
  • Programming Expertise in Python and SQL (Required)
  • Machine Learning: Expertise applying machine learning concepts and techniques related to supervised and unsupervised learning (Required)
  • Rationalization: Ability to work with cross functional teams to clearly define business problems by recognizing which facts are relevant (Required)
  • Communication Ability to explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences (Required)
  • Project Management Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams (Required)

Base Pay Range: $133,800 - $241,400

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
