Job Overview
The Manager, Product & Engineering is responsible for executing the design, product and technical build, support and maintenance of a key product or limited product portfolio, as well as the supporting technology capabilities and infrastructure that support that product in an Agile driven environment. Most often leading teams of 5 - 10 FTE, and may lead teams of onshore and offshore contracting companies. Direct reporting line may include team(s) of Product Manager(s), Product Owner(s), technical and solution architecture, DevOps management, UI / UX, Test, as well as full stack Software Development.

The Manager, Product & Engineering is also responsible for attracting, hiring, retaining a high performing, full stack, team of Product Managers, Software Developers, architects, other members of technical staff to support products and platforms. This role is also directly accountable for developing strong and productive relationships outside your direct teams with Customer or Customer representative teams, partner organizations, dependent engineering teams, and supporting vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manages product and engineering team to achieve results by providing appropriate direction, timely developmental feedback and coaching, and conducting performance evaluations and conversations. Monitors and measures work tasks to ensure deliverables are provided on time and within budget.

  • Manages both technical relationships with assigned vendors, including driving features and function requests for inclusion in future product releases.

  • Drives continuous development practice improvements across technical subject areas (e.g. team structure, roles, processes, tooling, security & compliance).

  • Interviews and hires qualified team members, targeting to improve T-Mobile bench strength and augmenting product or project teams with contract staff when required.

Scope of role:

  • Delivery of critical business initiatives for Prepaid Apps (Metro, Assurance Wireless, Magenta Prepaid) in the Web platform.

  • Maintain state of technology knowledge related to web development, API integration and Phoenix web platform challenges and opportunities.

  • Manage a team of front-end and full-stack developers, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Oversee technical relationships with assigned vendors, including driving the submission of feature and functionality requests for future product releases.

  • Prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business needs.

  • Ability to digest feature requirements and high-level end to end design to guide in coding approach and work breakdown.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, offer constructive feedback, hold team members accountable and set professional development goals for team members.

Technical Skills Required: 

  • Strong understanding in AEM front-end development, building components and templates, managing ClientLibs, integrating with JavaScript frameworks, and handling AEM’s content management and asset management features.

  • Understanding of AEM features like Sling, JCR, workflows, targeting, personalization, and integrating AEM with third-party services, as well as leveraging AEM’s Dispatcher for caching and load balancing.

  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js), with a strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.

  • Experience with Node.js, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and integrating front-end with back-end systems and version control systems like Git.

  • Familiar with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and serverless architectures, ensuring efficient deployment, scaling, and management of applications across environments.

  • Expertise in web performance best practices, including lazy loading, code splitting, caching strategies, and using tools like Lighthouse, LookerStudio to enhance application speed and efficiency.

  • Proficient in unit and integration testing using frameworks like Jest, Cypress, and Selenium, as well as applying Test-Driven Development (TDD) and ensuring high code quality with coverage tools.

  • Strong understanding of web security, including OWASP guidelines, common vulnerabilities (XSS, CSRF, SQL injection), implementing HTTPS/SSL, and encrypting sensitive data to ensure secure applications.

  • Experience leading teams using Agile frameworks (Scrum), with expertise in sprint planning, backlog management, and project tracking tools like JIRA to ensure timely and successful delivery.

Product Delivery:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of front-end projects, aligning with business goals and technical capabilities while managing timelines, priorities, and resources effectively.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (product, design, back-end) to define project scope, requirements, and user stories, ensuring smooth integration and quality delivery.

  • Manage project risks, track progress, and provide regular updates to collaborators, addressing any challenges and ensuring the project stays on track.

  • Foster a culture of standard processes and continuous learning within the team, conducting code reviews, setting standards, and ensuring the delivery of user-friendly, high-quality solutions.

People Management:

  • Evaluate technical solutions and assess the feasibility, scalability, and performance of proposed solutions against business goals, ensuring they align with long-term technical vision.
  • Lead and mentor the team in standard processes for software development, guiding them through complex technical challenges while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback, ensuring the codebase remains high-quality, maintainable, and aligned with team standards.
  • Ensure that technical decisions are data-driven and based on current industry standard processes, balancing innovation with practical execution.
  • Measure and track team performance, setting clear objectives, providing regular feedback, and identifying areas for growth to develop team members' technical and leadership capabilities.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Engineering, IT or equivalent experience. (Required)

Work Experience:

  • 4-7 years Product Management experience in an agile software product development environment. (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Agile Methodologies Knowledge in software with Agile Scrum methodologies and other commonly used tools. (Required)
  • Technical Writing Strong requirements elicitation, and proven writing skills including the ability to write concisely and clearly for different audiences. (Required)
  • Agile Knowledge of the overall execution relating to all aspects of an agile development team, from defining the strategy and architecture through deployment and support. (Required)
  • Agile Project Management Experience with Agile backlog/project management tools. (Required)
  • Technology Experience in delivering large and complex business/technology initiatives. (Required)
  • Communication Proven ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with Leadership, while employing a high degree of collaboration and influence. (Required)
  • Collaboration Experience with successive elaboration and ability to develop Initiatives, Features and User Stories that the DevOps teams can ingest. (Required)
  • Business Analysis Strong analytical skills with ability to identify/analyze/ synthesize product use data. (Required)

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Scrum Product Owner Certification (CSPO) (Preferred)
  • Other Technical Certification Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) (Preferred)

Base Pay Range: $134,300 - $242,200

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
