Job Overview
The MTS's role is to design, validate, and deploy advanced technical solutions that drive the evolution of T-Mobile’s network and systems, with a strong focus on 5G applications, cloud networking, and DevOps integration. This role requires deep expertise in architecting and optimizing solutions across both the infrastructure and platform layers of the telco cloud, including OpenStack, Kubernetes, and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). You will be responsible for designing scalable, high-performance systems that support 5G Core, and MEC use cases such as private networks, IoT, network slicing, and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). Additional responsibilities include implementing CI/CD pipelines, developing automation and orchestration tools, and supporting the deployment and performance optimization of cloud-native network functions (CNFs). A strong foundation in network function virtualization (NFV), service-based architecture (SBA), and cross-domain cloud networking is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience translating complex requirements into end-to-end system designs, collaborating across teams, and communicating technical strategies to both engineering and leadership audiences. Familiarity with ONAP, ETSI MANO, TM Forum Open APIs, and real-world 5G telco deployments is a plus.

Skills are required to influence across organizations, present technical roadmaps, and guide cross-functional stakeholders. Experience with NFV, CNFs, SBA, and orchestration frameworks such as ONAP or ETSI MANO is highly desirable, along with a proven track record in real-world 5G telco deployments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Technical System Expertise: Deep understanding of system parameters, configurations, and how to alter them for desired results. Proactively identifies system weaknesses, determines root cause, and finds solutions for improvement. Aware of current technology benefits. Creating complex network designs. Deep understanding in multiple technologies and disciplines in the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete design work. Independent study of current technology is expected. Good understanding of adjacent processes and workflows. Industry involvement.
  • Technical Engineering Services: Leads engineering projects and team members by active contribution to the application of engineering techniques; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations. Expected to supervise principal level engineers as needed. Will be expected to present project improvement scenarios to executive team for consideration. Engages with vendor(s) or industry fellows to innovate procedures and processes to validate and enhance and optimize network. Able to diagnose and redesign based on changing business requirements and objectives. Able to lead others through various scenarios and explain the variance and impact. Able to prepare executive summaries of activities and clearly communicate areas of opportunity
  • Innovation: Creates, presents, designs, and implements new ideas which improve an existing and new system/process/service. Proactively investigates options to address concerns of new service offerings prior to creation. Offers new industry views and considerations within the NT organization. Contributes to industry or vendor forums on T-Mobile's behalf.
  • Technical Writing: Writes advanced documentation, architecture, capabilities, limitations, and advantages for technologies. Produces advanced documentation and literature for multiple disciplines. Clearly describes technical specifications, business benefits, opportunities and threats. Routinely creates and presents executive and external materials. Actively contributes to industry publications and professional norms.
  • Technical Leadership: Monitor and influence relevant industry technologies and standards. Present highly technical concepts to both technical and non-technical decision-makers. Continuously learns, creates content, and facilitates training held by others on a specific subject area. Informally coaches and contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions. Coach and develop engineers across functional teams on technology decisions. Participation in formal internal training programs. Influence technology and policy decisions made across the Network Technology organization. Influence financial decisions, including NPV and ROI, based on customer experience/business drivers.
  • Technology Strategy: Research and create new technology options to drive business transformation.
  • Supplemental Region/Market Functions:
    o Strategic end to end dimensioning, planning and performance of the network
    o Development of optimization features and processes
    o Provides capacity plans and performance reports
    o Provides regular performance reports for nodes, interfaces, and services across
    o Supports performance related lab and FOA activities
    o Systems Engineering and design of T-Mobile’s Network
    o Feasibility analysis of new technologies, products, features, and services
    o In depth analysis (both fiscal and technical) and design of new features and technologies
    o Development and deployment of network technology software/automation reporting and tools to meet internal customer and business requirements
    o Collect, process and evaluate market/regional analytics to identify further business CAPEX spend and OPEX Savings


Education and Work Experience:

  • Master's/Advanced Degree Engineering/Computer Science (Required)
  • 9+ yrs technical engineering experience. Required

    Base Pay Range: $121,900 - $220,000

    Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

    The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

    At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
