Job Overview
The System Architecture Engineer's role is to develop and evolve technical network and service architectures and design strategies to maintain, enhance, and evolve the T-Mobile Technology portfolio. Specific tasks may include the creation, adaption, or revision of detailed schematics of network and service architecture, hardware and software selections, and implementation techniques and processes. May be required to perform, evaluate, or interpret network simulation, test results, or leading edge technology studies. Technical documentation and presentation skills are required in order to translate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences. Influence and drive industry forums. Consistently works on complex technical assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues. Makes recommendations for new procedures. Works on unique issues where analysis of situation or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluations criteria for obtaining results. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. Informal supervision of other's work assignments.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Technical System Expertise: Deep understanding of system parameters, configurations, and how to alter them for desired results. Proactively identifies system weaknesses, determines root cause, and finds solutions for improvement. Aware of current technology benefits. Creating complex network and service architecture, design strategies and standards. Deep understanding in multiple technologies and disciplines in the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete architecture design work. Independent study of current technology is expected. Good understanding of adjacent processes and workflows. Industry involvement. Understanding of the broader impact to the business from internal and external technology directions. Ability to represent T-Mobile's view on technology issues in public forums.
  • Technical Engineering Services: Leads engineering projects and team members by active contribution to the application of engineering techniques; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations. Expected to supervise principal level engineers as needed. Will be expected to present project improvement scenarios to executive team for consideration. Engages with vendor(s) or industry fellows to innovate procedures and processes to validate and enhance and optimize network architecture. Able to diagnose and redesign based on changing business requirements and objectives. Able to lead others through various scenarios and explain the variance and impact. Able to prepare executive summaries of activities and clearly communicate areas of opportunity.
  • Innovation: Creates, presents, designs, and implements new ideas which improve an existing and new system/process/service. Proactively investigates architecture, design strategies and standards options to address concerns of new service offerings prior to creation. Offers new industry views and considerations within the NT organization. Contributes to industry or vendor forums on T-Mobile's behalf. Analyzes industry trends and competitive moves, determines potential impact on T-Mobile and proposes appropriate actions if any. Proposes new ideas and innovations to management that may have significant business impact.
  • Technical Writing: Writes advanced documentation, architecture, capabilities, limitations, and advantages for technologies. Produces advanced documentation and literature for multiple disciplines. Clearly describes architecture, design strategies, standards, technical specifications, business benefits, opportunities and threats. Routinely creates and presents executive and external materials, including white papers. Actively contributes to industry publications and professional forums.
  • Technical Leadership: Monitor and influence relevant industry technologies and standards. Present highly technical concepts to both technical and non-technical decision-makers. Continuously learns, creates content, and facilitates training held by others on a specific subject area. Informally coaches and contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions. Coach and develop engineers across functional teams on technology decisions. Participation in formal internal training programs. Influence technology and policy decisions made across the Network Technology organization related to architecture, design strategies and standards. Influence financial decisions, including NPV and ROI, based on customer experience/business drivers. Owns technology roadmaps and recommends technology and policy decisions to be made within Network Technology.
  • Technology Strategy: Research and create new technology options to drive business transformation. Proposes technology position for the company across the Network Technology organization.
  • Education:
  • Master's/Advanced Degree Engineering, Computer Science (Preferred)
  • Work Experience:
  • 7-10 years Technical engineering experience. (Required)

    Base Pay Range: $142,800 - $257,600

    Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

    The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

    At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
