The Principal Data Architect will play a critical role in defining and implementing enterprise-wide data architecture strategies to support various partners such as business intelligence, analytics, and operational excellence. This role involves designing and maintaining robust data models, crafting and building silver and gold layer tables for executive-level reporting, and ensuring data consistency across platforms. They will collaborate closely with senior architects, solution architects, and business leaders to align data initiatives with organizational goals. They will develop proof-of-concept (POC) solutions, assess work effort estimates, and provide architectural mentorship across multiple projects. Additionally, the role includes driving the standardization of data definitions, taxonomies, and business semantic models while setting the enterprise agenda for reference model architecture and information standards. Staying advised of industry trends in data management, governance, and compliance, the Principal Data Architect will continuously refine data architecture standards and guide teams through critical architectural decisions. With a focus on improving team efficiency through reusable frameworks and utilities, this position will act as a subject matter expert, balancing technical excellence with business priorities to deliver high-impact solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicates solution designs clearly in multiple modes of communication – diagrams, documents, verbally.
  • Provides support to Senior Architects on assessments and work-effort estimates for the business and routinely as part of the project intake process for our architecture team.
  • Develops proof-of-concept (POC) and prototypes to help illustrate approaches to technology and business problems.
  • Actively aid the team’s knowledge and drive new capabilities forward
  • Unify collections of data requirements for key data concepts across the enterprise, harmonizing business definitions and semantics, and specifying data designs expressed as business semantic models, data models, lifecycle models, taxonomies, etc.
  • Set enterprise agenda for Reference Model Architecture and Standards for presenting direction of Information Architecture
  • Stay abreast of information management trends and standards, master data management, data services, self-service business intelligence, metadata management, data quality, and data governance.
  • Conduct industry research & trends for setting the direction of Data Architecture
  • Architect, design, and implement enterprise-class relational and dimensional data models to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives.
  • Design and create gold-layer tables to enable executive-level and end-to-end omnichannel reporting and analysis, ensuring data accuracy and consistency across platforms.
  • Partner with leadership, solution architects, and development teams to align data architecture initiatives with business goals and ensure seamless integration of solutions.
  • Develop frameworks, utilities, and reusable components to increase the productivity and efficiency of the data engineering team.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine data architecture standards, ensuring alignment with industry expectnew technologiesechnologies.
  • Lead efforts to improve data governance, security, and compliance across enterprise data platforms.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to teams through architectural decisions, balancing technical excellence with business priorities.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business (Required)
  • Experience in lieu of education accepted (Required)

Work Experience:

  • 7-10 years Experience with enterprise level database systems and environments such as Microsoft Azure, Snowflake, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server or others, emphasis on Teradata. (Required)
  • 7-10 years Progressive experience in software engineering/enterprise architecture/technology leadership across multiple products, systems and/or platforms coupled with strong business discernment and executive presence. (Required)
  • 7-10 years Experience working in solutions design and enterprise architecture delivering IT solutions. (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Data Modeling and Design: Proficient in designing and implementing data models, including relational, NoSQL, and data lake architectures (Required)
  • Expertise in relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases SQL (Required)
  • Data Warehousing and ETL: Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data pipelines (Required)
  • Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) and their data services (Required)

Base Pay Range: $116,100 - $209,300

Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
