The Principal Software Engineer serves as a technical leader and strategist, guiding the design and evolution of enterprise-scale telecom billing and operational support systems. You will be responsible for defining architectural standards, leading modernization initiatives, and driving innovation across critical components of a high-availability BSS/OSS platform. Working closely with engineering, product, and operations teams, you will ensure that system solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with long-term business goals. You’ll engage with both legacy and modern stacks—including C/C++, Java, Oracle PL/SQL, and Linux-based scripting—while mentoring senior engineers and influencing strategic technical decisions. This role requires a strong understanding of telecom domain challenges, a forward-looking mentality, and a dedication to perfection in system design and performance.*** This position will sit in Frisco, TX, Bellevue, WA, Atlanta, GA, Overland Park, KS, Herndon, VA OR Denver, CO. This is not a remote role - this is a hybrid environment requiring 3 days a week in office.
Job Responsibilities:
Define and architect scalable, high-performance solutions for telecom billing and OSS/BSS platforms, setting technical direction across development teams.
Drive end-to-end system design for complex business logic involving rating, charging, invoicing, and customer management in high-availability environments.
Establish coding and architectural standards for C/C++, Java, PL/SQL, and shell scripting implementations, balancing legacy needs with modern practices.
Spearhead database performance strategies and enterprise-wide optimization initiatives across Oracle platforms.
Lead all aspects of and coordinate integration of system modules, batch pipelines, and third-party OSS/BSS tools to deliver cohesive operational solutions.
Lead critical incident reviews and implement long-term stability measures for production systems processing extensive data volumes.
Champion modernization efforts, including re-architecture, legacy migration, and microservices enablement.
Review, influence, and approve technical documentation, operational standards, and development workflows to ensure strategic alignment.
Code Review and mentoring of other team members
Designs / builds sophisticated scheduled jobs and micro-services defining new patterns and orchestrations
Designs / implements advanced data storage mechanisms using relational and non-relational data stores
Explores, creates and configures cloud services using infrastructure as code. Recommends new cloud services and patterns
Presents new ideas which improve an existing system/process/service. Presents new ideas which apply new frameworks to improve an existing system/process/service
Develop a culture of technical excellence through mentorship, cross-team collaboration, and continuous improvement processes.
Awareness of technology roadmap. Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging engineering practices. Continuously learns, creates content, and guides others specific subject areas. Informally coaches and contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions. Mentor and develop engineers across functional teams on technology decisions. Influence technology and policy decisions made at Director+ level across organization. Understand financial decisions, including NPV and ROI, based on customer experience/business drivers.
Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.
Education and Work Experience (Required):
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or Engineering
7+ years full stack web development experience including front end and back end
7+ years designing database schemas, writing SQL
3+ years DevOps experience with infrastructure as code
4+ years using cloud services from AWS, Azure or GCP
7+ years technical engineering experience
1+ years coaching and mentoring team members
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Amdocs billing systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expected to be able to setup a completely new full stack environment from scratch including build steps and backend infrastructure
Knowledge of html, css, webpack, JavaScript, at least one front end framework and one backend framework
Understands web protocols, how full stack applications operate and data flows
Understanding of database modeling and SQL. Capable of performance tuning and refactoring from one data store to another
Deep understanding of cloud system parameters, configurations, and how to alter them for desired results
Good understanding of adjacent processes and workflows

Base Pay Range: $133,500 - $240,700Corporate Bonus Target: 20%
The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.
At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
