At T-Mobile, we don’t just connect calls—we connect people, devices, and the future. We’re looking for a Principal Solution Architect with a unique blend of software architecture, network architecture, and IoT solution engineering experience to lead the design, development, and deployment of intelligent systems that sit at the intersection of cloud, edge, and radio networks.
This high-impact role involves driving the architecture of distributed systems that power our IoT and advanced wireless initiatives. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams, influence T-Mobile’s long-term technology roadmap, and shape how we integrate connected devices across our nationwide network.
What You’ll Do:
Solution & System Architecture:
· Architect end-to-end IoT and edge-to-cloud solutions, integrating application, compute, and network layers.
· Design and implement scalable full-stack platforms that include cloud-native services, microservices, and real-time data pipelines.
· Develop reference architectures and solution blueprints for low-latency, high-reliability IoT deployments.
Network & Infrastructure Design:
· Contribute to the evolution of T-Mobile’s 5G/5G Advanced network by designing cell site and transport-level enhancements to support new IoT use cases.
· Align network design with application needs through deep understanding of RAN, core, and IP network components.
· Lead PoCs and lab trials to validate new network-based IoT technologies and services.
Cloud, DevOps & CI/CD Integration:
· Drive adoption of infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) across IoT solution development.
· Configure and optimize cloud-native services across AWS, Azure, or GCP for distributed deployments.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
· Collaborate with teams in hardware design, software engineering, product, and operations to ensure alignment and delivery.
· Influence vendor roadmaps and contribute to the selection of future-ready platforms and tools.
Strategic Thinking & Financial Acumen:
· Evaluate solutions and architecture decisions through a financial lens (CAPEX, OPEX, TCO).
· Align engineering efforts with business drivers and customer experience metrics.
Documentation & Communication:
· Author architecture documents, deployment plans, and design standards.
· Translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels—including executives.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
· 8+ years of experience in software architecture and engineering.
· 5+ years in network architecture with exposure to 3G/4G/5G systems and wireless infrastructure.
· 4+ years in designing or delivering IoT solutions or distributed connected systems.
Technical Proficiency:
· Full-stack development experience using Java, Go, Python, JavaScript (or similar), and modern web frameworks.
· Strong cloud engineering skills across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
· Knowledge of data flow systems, real-time messaging, and database design (SQL and NoSQL).
· Familiarity with network management, OSS/BSS systems, RAN, and cloud-native core networks.
· Hands-on with tools such as Power BI, MapInfo, Actix, QXDM, and network simulation or scripting platforms.
Soft Skills & Competencies:
· Strategic Vision: Ability to align engineering and business strategy.
· Problem Solver: Uses analytical thinking to find practical solutions to complex issues.
· Influencer: Capable of driving change and adoption across departments and vendors.
· Team Player: Builds consensus across cross-functional groups.
· Excellent Communicator: Translates technical depth into business value.
