Sr Engineer, Software

The Sr Software Engineer works with a team of other software engineers, network and systems engineers to design, implement, and deploy software which meets customer requirements, scales easily, removes the limitations of traditional networking solutions, and supports deployment in highly available environments.
As a Senior Engineer on the T-Life Platform team, you’ll build scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that drive innovative user experiences across connected devices and mobile platforms. You will collaborate with product managers, hardware engineers, and mobile developers to deliver cloud-native APIs, device and user management capabilities, and real-time data services. You will also contribute across the full software lifecycle—from architecture and development to testing, deployment, and production support—while championing engineering excellence, privacy, and continuous integration.
The Sr Software Engineer actively participates in architecture and design of various software components focused on creating applications that leverage technologies such as virtualization and microservices. They work on technical assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. They work on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative, understand implications of work, and make recommendations for solutions. They normally receive little instruction on daily work, and only require general instructions on newly introduced assignments.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Engineering Services

  • Drives engineering projects by developing software solutions; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations. Expected to supervise base and associate level engineers as needed.
  • Aware of current technology benefits.
  • Expected to independently develop a full software stack, including .NET and Azure-hosted APIs and backend systems using C#, ASP.NET Core, and Azure App Services.
  • Understands the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete software and automation work.
  • Independent study of current technology is expected.
  • Interacts with system engineers to define system requirements and/or necessary requirements for automation.

Innovation

  • Contributes to designs to implement new ideas which utilize new frameworks to improve an existing or new system/process/service.
  • Reviews existing designs and processes to highlight more efficient ways to complete existing workload more effectively through industry perspectives.
  • Understands the creation of company IPR.

Technical Leadership

  • Collaborates with technical teams and utilizes system expertise to deliver technical solutions.
  • Continuously learns and teaches others existing and new technologies.
  • Contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in-house workshops and learning sessions.
  • Leads application of development and testing practices including TDD, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

Technology Strategy

  • Contributes to new and existing technology options that support business goals.
  • Understands current technology that supports business goals. Understands system protocols, how systems operate and data flows.
  • Works with Azure Event Hub, Docker, Kubernetes, and both SQL and NoSQL (Cosmos DB, MongoDB) technologies where applicable.

Technical Writing

  • Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Creates clear documentation for new code and systems used.
  • Documents systems designs, presentations, and business requirements for consumption and consideration at the manager level.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 4-7 years technical engineering experience, including cloud-based API development on Azure or AWS.
  • Strong proficiency in C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, and the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, TCP/IP, and security principles.
  • Experience with containers (Docker), orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and Azure Event Hub.
  • Experience working with Cosmos DB, MongoDB, and relational SQL databases.
  • Good communication, customer service, analytics, and technical writing skills.

    Base Pay Range: $113,600 - $205,000

    Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

    The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

    At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
