Position summary

T-Mobile is America’s supercharged Un-carrier, delivering an advanced 4G LTE and transformative nationwide 5G network that will offer reliable connectivity for all. Sr. Engineers, Cybersecurity located in Herndon, VA will lead security, compliance, and risk assessments on projects throughout project lifecycle.

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Improve process efficiency by creating and implementing creative and sustainable changes to existing deployment methodologies.

  • Lead the identification of security needs & recommends plans/resolutions.

  • Implements, tests & monitors info security improvements.

  • Mentor peers and junior team members in security technologies, enterprise solution design and facilitation and effective customer interaction.

  • Have advanced understanding of IP/Security solutions & technologies applicable to the Wireless Network Architecture.

  • Test and validate system performance.

  • Perform trouble shooting, analysis, research and resolution using advanced query and programming skills and conduct root cause analysis.

  • Analyze variances and initiate effectiveness or efficiency improvements in the organization, standards, procedures, or methods.

  • Assess initial severity, gather impacts, create tickets in JIRA/KANBAN, engage necessary support teams, and escalate as necessary.

  • Look for areas of improvement in monitoring, application stability, and speed of determining root cause.

  • Real-time restoration and triaging of issues impacting technical services (application/infrastructure) to customers and partners in a timely manner.

  • Communicate with line of business and management the overall status and health of the application.

  • Communicate overall status and health of the application to business and application support teams.

  • Provide input and technical guidance in project management, planning, task definition, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and workflow.

  • Develop plans to meet required service levels; design data collection and reporting mechanisms for application/infrastructure health reporting.

  • Participate on outage calls, lead, and coordinate with multiple teams to resolve outages in a timely fashion.

  • Create, review and update configuration management plans related to code promotion based on information systems and business requirements.

  • Look for areas of improvement in security, monitoring, and proactive solutions.

  • Lead a small team of onshore and offshore support.

  • Work with management team on efforts revolving around day-to-day activities and risks that require solutions.

  • Telecommuting is permitted, but applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance.

Skill requirements:

  • (1) Performing trouble shooting, analysis, research and resolution using advanced query and programming skills, including C/Java/Python/SQL; conducting root cause analysis/real-time restoration; and triaging of issues impacting technical services (application/infrastructure) to customers and partners in a timely manner;

  • (2) Mentoring peers and junior team members in security technologies, enterprise solution design and facilitation and effective customer interaction;

  • (3) Utilizing and evaluating results from vulnerability scanners, including Nessus/Qualys, and providing technical expertise to resolve the issues; collaborating with Engineering & Operations Teams to address security vulnerabilities found via PSIRTs, scans or breaches;

  • (4) Configuring and utilizing log analytics tools, including Splunk/Sumo Logic, to create dashboards, queries, and alerts;

  • (5) Evaluating security governance, risk, and compliance policies for enterprise businesses from NIST 800-53 Framework, CPNI standards, SOC2 to ensure that software, systems, and infrastructure are designed and implemented to the highest security standards, producing evidence for SOX/PCI audits; and

  • (6) Performing technical security assessments, code reviews using tools such as Sonatype/Veracode/Synk to highlight risk and remediate associated findings while helping T-Mobile teams and partners improve security.

Experience and education requirements:

PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related, and 3 years of relevant work experience.

ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related, and 5 years of relevant work experience.
