T-Mobile is seeking a Sr. Product Manager to lead the cross-functional execution and operationalization of our device portfolio across multiple categories—handsets, wearables, trackers, and connected computing. This individual will serve as a critical bridge between sourcing, product, engineering, and executive teams to ensure device proposals are evaluated, launched, and managed with operational rigor and technical depth. You will need to understand core technical elements of devices—including connectivity standards, chipset differences, sensor stacks, AI capabilities, and platform integrations (e.g., Smartcom, T-Life, satellite readiness)—and translate these into actionable project plans, timelines, and decisions. Your ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly while orchestrating large-scale portfolio planning processes is key.
Responsibilities:
Portfolio Strategy & Slot Planning
- Lead quarterly device portfolio planning, defining device mix and slot allocation across all channels and customer segments.
- Align device decisions with company strategy, LOB input, market forecasts, competitive analysis, and OEM capabilities.
- Develop clear slot strategies that balance cost, innovation, and customer value.
- Apply forecasting models, Power BI or other dashboards, and customer/product metrics to shape portfolio-level decisions and roadmap development.
- Introduce and scale processes for strategic performance reviews and continuous portfolio optimization.
- Work closely with LOBs, product managers, finance, sourcing, and operations teams to align on goals, assess outcomes, and optimize execution.
Project & Technical Coordination
- Lead and manage end-to-end project timelines for portfolio slot planning, device sourcing, and slot delivery across all roadmap categories.
- Serve as a technical sounding board during RFP evaluations—helping assess trade-offs in chipset selection, OS readiness, feature functionality feasibility, AI integration, and platform compatibility.
- Maintain central documentation on OEM commitments, submitted proposals, certifications/capabilities (e.g., Wear O/S, PTCRB, GCF), device specs, supported features, and overall maturity/readiness of all finalist proposals.
- Identify, improve, and implement process changes where needed to create a more effective and efficient portfolio management and sourcing team (RACIs, meeting efficiencies, weekly/monthly communications, Stop-Start-Kill, etc.).
Cross-Functional Device Planning
- Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Portfolio Strategy, Product Management, and LOBs to translate strategic slot decisions into operational portfolio sourcing plans.
- Coordinate and manage sourcing related milestones including annual and in-year strategy update reviews, monthly communication publications, and 3x per year portfolio sourcing programs.
- Track deliverables across device categories/tiers and form a single source of truth for portfolio execution.
AI & Emerging Technology Engagement
- Support evaluation of AI-powered devices, including emerging categories like wearable assistants, motion-AI trackers, and smart camera stacks.
- Work with vendors to validate AI capabilities (on-device vs. cloud-based), model performance, and power trade-offs.
- Contribute to the implementation playbook for integrating AI/ML devices into TMO’s internal or third-party cloud systems.
Platform & Ecosystem Compatibility
- Validate OEM support for TMO-specific needs: T-Life app, OTA/FOTA management, MQTT protocols, Band 25/Satellite logic, etc.
- Identify, escalate and help resolve device specification or backend system roadblocks that could delay portfolio inclusion.
- Act as a liaison between TMO’s platform/engineering teams and external vendors on key feature/functionality integration touchpoints (NTN, RedCap, eSIM).
Executive Communications & Documentation
- Create and maintain executive-ready reporting on portfolio slot execution, risk mitigation, and program status.
- Contribute to business reviews and sourcing meetings by summarizing technical differentiators and project implications.
- Support internal presentations to align stakeholders on trade-offs (e.g., device size vs. battery vs. AI model complexity).
- Support PRD development and refresh existing PRDs in support of next gen products for various product categories particularly in our BTS (Beyond the Smartphone) space.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (MBA or PMP a plus).
- 7+ years in product strategy, sourcing, or technology product lifecycle roles—preferably in device, telecom, or portfolio-heavy environments.
- Proven success in portfolio strategy, roadmap planning, or category management.
- Demonstrated ability to convert complex data sets into executive-level narratives and decisions
- Strong technical fluency in mobile technologies (chipsets, sensors, connectivity), platform integrations (e.g., Smartcom, AWS, Azure IoT), and device certification pathways.
- Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (Edge AI, motion detection, computer vision) and their implementation in resource-constrained devices.
- Track record managing cross-functional workstreams across sourcing, engineering, lab, and finance.
- Strong organizational, risk management, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience working with OEMs or ODMs across geographies, including Asia-based manufacturing partners.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience supporting device slot strategy in a large mobile carrier or OEM.
- Proven ability to “translate” technical details for business and sourcing stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple, simultaneous fast-moving projects with varying technical complexity.
- Excitement about the role of AI, 5G, and satellite connectivity in shaping the future of connected devices.
- Demonstrated program management capabilities.
- At least 18 years of age
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
